“A ciência verde brasileira tem tecnologia e propósito”, diz produtora de cosméticos orgânicos

"Brazilian green science has technology and purpose," says organic cosmetics producer.

A pioneer in the manufacture of 100% organic cosmetics in Brazil, Soraia Zonta, a businesswoman from Santa Catarina and founder and CEO of the company Bioart, located in Greater Florianópolis, has just launched products from her brand in Paris. She explains that she chose the French capital to launch her biodermocosmetics because it was there that she began her international career in the field, was invited to give a lecture on sustainable entrepreneurship at the University of Paris Saclay, and also to show the world that Brazil can have global leadership in the production of sustainable cosmetics. In March of this year, Soraia Zonta was recognized with the United Nations (UN) Global Green Chemistry Award in the Women-Led Initiatives category and was invited to become a UN Green Chemistry Ambassador. While leading the development of new products at Bioart, she also gives lectures highlighting her career in the green chemistry industry, focusing on research, innovation, and sustainability. At the Soubio Experience event on the 12th of this month in Florianópolis, she spoke about entrepreneurship and purpose. She also presented products at the event's trade show that she launched in Paris, such as a vegan bioserum and a resveratrol-based skin cream. In the following interview, the businesswoman talks about the company, her journey, and the current phase of her career, with lectures in Brazil and abroad on sustainable cosmetics following recognition from the UN. Check it out: Why did you choose to launch Bioart products in Paris a few days ago? – Launching a Bioserum and biodermocosmetics in Paris was a symbolic and strategic choice to celebrate Bioart's 15th anniversary! The city is a global icon of beauty; my international career began there. And the name BIOART originated in Paris. Returning after 15 years and bringing Bioart there was a way to show that Brazil is also capable of leading the global movement for sustainable cosmetics. Presenting our Bioserum and creams, which act as potent biodermocosmetics, in one of the largest beauty innovation hubs reaffirms that Brazilian green science has strength, technology, and purpose. Paris has always been a dream, not just for the glamour, but for what it represents: a stage where organic beauty meets art. Being there with products born from Brazilian soil, with natural ingredients and respect for nature, was thrilling. It was like saying: "Brazilian natural beauty with purpose also has a place in the world." This mission was also given to me when I received the most important and significant award for women's leadership in green and sustainable beauty from the United Nations this year. I had the honor of visiting the Paris-Saclay cluster and being at the service of education at the invitation of the Centre d'Études Avancées en Éducation et Développement Durable (CEAEDD), during the European Week for Sustainable Development. It was a special opportunity to share about my journey and green career, launch products, and present my book "Na Pele" (On the Skin) to students of innovation and sustainability, strengthening the connection between science and technology in sustainable careers. You are the founder of Bioart, a pioneering company in the manufacture of organic and natural dermocosmetics. How did the business begin? – Bioart started out of a very personal need. I've always had skin allergies and, for many years, I couldn't find products that worked well for me. This difficulty sparked an enormous curiosity in me about ingredients, formulations, and environmental impacts. My studies and practical projects were cradled in France, Italy, and Japan – where I honed my skills and developed the ability to anticipate trends and seek solutions for Brazil's challenges, thus transforming my own problems into innovative green technologies. Gradually, I transformed this search for care into a purpose, and my journey led me to a leading role for women in the green and sustainable beauty segment in my country. Bioart emerged from the desire to create effective, clean, and conscious products that care for the skin without harming the planet. I realized how much the national beauty industry needed to evolve towards a more ethical and sustainable relationship with the environment and with people. We started with few resources, but with a very clear vision: to unite science, green technology, nature, and purpose in each bioformula. I remember that in the beginning everything was handcrafted, full of trial and error. I myself tested, created, reformulated… Bioart was born from this love for nature and the genuine desire to do things differently, and that's what it does today. How is the company doing right now? Bioart constantly seeks to anticipate trends and create disruptive innovation. Because the world is already saturated with copies! The UN's award for women's leadership in green chemistry and beauty has brought us even more responsibility to develop technologies and processes using the resource efficiency received, innovating in bioformulations and strengthening our digital presence, always focusing on maintaining the essence and excellence that has brought us this far. This year we will launch a line that is 100% based on caring for the whole family and the planet, strictly following the processes that led to our international recognition by the United Nations. What are the biggest challenges in manufacturing organic cosmetics? Producing organic and sustainable cosmetics is a great challenge because it requires absolute respect for nature's timing; ingredients are not always available in the same quality or quantity, and each harvest brings its own particularities. Furthermore, maintaining the effectiveness of the formulas without resorting to synthetic substances demands a great deal of research, patience, and innovation. Every detail counts, including the packaging, which is also designed to be sustainable. It's a slower process, but also a more genuine one; cleaner and more conscious. Each product embodies the strength of conscious work, done responsibly from the producer to the skin of those who trust the brand. Many brands call themselves natural, clean, and sustainable beauty brands, but in practice they are nothing of the sort. This is where the great challenge of information reaching the national consumer lies. That's why we are always striving to bring awareness and truthful information to the consumer. This year, you were recognized with the UN Global Award for Women's Leadership in Green Chemistry and were invited to be an ambassador for the organization in this area. How are these recognitions impacting your career path? – Receiving the titles of UN Ambassador for green cosmetics (for the products) and for female leadership in sustainable beauty has highlighted my trajectory as a visionary figure in leading the green beauty segment in Brazil, bringing pioneering spirit and innovation. It is an honor and a responsibility to maintain a high standard of quality and influence on social media and through speaking engagements, bringing content to the world. This year I have already given lectures and participated in panels on the topic in Vienna, Austria, Morocco, and at Paris Saclay University. In Brazil, I have given lectures in the states of São Paulo and Santa Catarina, among others. This recognition reinforces Bioart's importance as a global reference in sustainability and innovation in beauty. It amplifies our voice as the women I represent and our commitment to inspiring other brands to adopt truly conscious practices. Because this was an award that cannot be "bought," but rather because we proved to the United Nations that over the past 15 years we have developed sustainable technologies and solutions for preventing the invisible pollution generated by the conventional beauty industry, as well as protecting people's health. When I was called upon to represent Brazil and Latin America as the first and only woman to receive this title and to participate in a panel discussion among the world's great leaders, it was one of the most memorable moments of my life. I remembered everything I had experienced up to that point, the challenges, the doubts, the days when it seemed impossible to continue. Being recognized by the UN made me feel that it was worthwhile to believe in the beauty of green that transforms, not just disguises. That preserves and raises environmental awareness. It also brings truth and quality to the lives of many families. At the Sou Bio sustainable economy event in Florianópolis, you gave a talk on entrepreneurship. What messages are you prioritizing to share as a speaker and female leader recognized by the United Nations? My main message is that it's possible to undertake projects with purpose and sustainability. I brought this knowledge to the stage at Sou Bio and to the Bioart lounge, where we presented all our knowledge in the form of products for people to experience firsthand. "And ON THE SKIN" is also the name of my book in which I share this knowledge. In my lectures and book, I offer reflections on conscious leadership, sustainable innovation, and the role of companies in preventing and regenerating the planet. I also highlight ways to prevent environmental and social impacts. Our hormonal health is highly impacted by the use of conventional cosmetics. The conventional cosmetics industry is one of the biggest polluters of the environment. From the production process onwards – they are already releasing toxic substances into the communities where they are located – and when the consumer uses this product, the invisible pollution continues to pollute water and soil through drains and disposal. I believe the future of business will be increasingly green, collaborative, and human. I like to talk about courage. About the power to start over, to make mistakes, to keep believing. I always say that entrepreneurship with purpose isn't the easiest path, but it's the most beautiful, true, and sustainable. When we understand that profit can go hand in hand with good, everything changes. Her most recent book is "NA PELE" (ON THE SKIN), which focuses on clean beauty cosmetology. What stands out in this work? – I wrote “ON THE SKIN” to share my journey of overcoming challenges and achieving success leading a pioneering and innovative clean beauty business in the country, with tips and inspiration for those who want to undertake sustainable ventures. This book is the most complete expression of Bioart's philosophy and the journey I have been building for years in the clean beauty segment. It has 228 pages that blend personal memories, scientific research, and business strategy. In it, I recount my life from childhood, marked by skin allergies, to the moment I founded a brand that values natural, organic, and biodegradable ingredients, rigorous certifications, and a business model that respects human health and the environment. Especially for those who wish to become entrepreneurs, the book ON THE SKIN goes beyond inspiration: it offers practical tools, real insights on overcoming challenges, innovation, ethics in the production chain, brand planning, and positioning in a competitive market. It is a book for those who believe it is possible to create a profitable and sustainable business. The book "NA PELE" (ON THE SKIN) is that embrace: of inspiration, of companionship, of proof that one can undertake without abandoning values. It reveals behind-the-scenes stories, mistakes and successes, showing that true innovation is born when purpose is combined with discipline and the courage to do things differently. It has already been cited by renowned journalists within the ESG universe. How can people purchase products from Bioart? Bioart products are available exclusively on our official e-commerce site. We work to ensure that every customer has access to a complete conscious beauty experience, with safety, authenticity, and care in every delivery.
